Both the West Indies and the United States, as well as the top eight teams from the 2022 tournament, were granted automatic qualification for the upcoming event. The final two spots were filled by the highest-ranked teams in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings that had not yet secured a place in the tournament as of November 14, 2022. The final eight spots were determined through the ICC’s regional qualifiers, with two teams from Africa, Asia, and Europe, as well as one team from the Americas and East Asia-Pacific regions. In May 2022, the ICC officially announced the sub-regional qualification routes for Europe, East Asia-Pacific, and Africa.

In July 2023, both Ireland and Scotland secured their spots in the upcoming World Cup through the Europe Qualifier, with Papua New Guinea also clinching a spot from the East Asia-Pacific region. Canada joined the line-up after winning the Americas Qualifier in October 2023. Nepal and Oman earned their places in the tournament by making it to the final of the Asia Qualifier held in Nepal.

Namibia and Uganda completed the list of qualifying teams by finishing in the top two spots in the Africa Qualifier. Notably, Zimbabwe, a Test-playing nation, failed to qualify for the World Cup. This edition of the tournament will see Canada and Uganda making their debut appearances in the men’s T20 World Cup, while the United States will participate for the first time as a co-host.

Venues

Cricket West Indies (CWI) launched a bidding process in May 2023 for Caribbean nations ready to host World Cup matches. The International Cricket Council (ICC) shortlisted four American locations for the July 2023 matches: Grand Prairie Stadium in Grand Prairie, Texas; Church Street Park in Morrisville, North Carolina; Central Broward Park in Lauderhill, Florida; and a makeshift stadium at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York City.38 Bronx residents opposed the stadium in Van Cortlandt Park because they believed it would limit public access to the park for a long period, expressed worries about the event’s potential effects on the environment, and questioned the event’s financial sustainability.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) said on September 20, 2023, that Grand Prairie, Lauderhill, and New York would be the three host cities in the United States. Eisenhower Park in Nassau County, New York, would house a temporary stadium with a capacity of 34,000 seats. Grand Prairie Stadium and Central Broward Park were to be enlarged, and during the competition, the capacity of the temporary grandstands and hospitality spaces would be doubled.

The West Indies’ venues will be in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago, according to an announcement made by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on September 22, 2023. Grenada, Jamaica, and Saint Kitts and Nevis did not make bids to host the World Cup; Olivia Grange, the minister of sports of Jamaica, disqualified a candidacy due to financial concerns. The most important cricket stadium in Trinidad, Queen’s Park Oval, was declared in November 2023 to host no World Cup matches. Instead, games will be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in San Fernando. Camacho Nigel,

The Queen’s Park Cricket Club president said that warm-up matches will most likely be held at the location prior to the main event beginning. Due to its incapacity to finish the venue’s infrastructure construction in time for the competition to start, the Dominican Republic’s government opted not to hold any World Cup matches at Windsor Park.

To complete the tournament schedule, an ICC group of delegates inspected the confirmed host locations in the United States and the Caribbean in December 2023.The Long Island stadium was slated to host the India–Pakistan group stage match, considered one of the largest rivalries in the sport. On 17 January 2024, the ICC unveiled the proposed design of the temporary New York stadium—Nassau County International Cricket Stadium—which was completed in May 2024 in time for the tournament. It marked the first temporary venue to have ever been used during an ICC World Cup.

Yes, that time of year has returned. when cricket venues are still completely full despite the fast-rising temperature. At this point, hardly any other cricket is played. when some cricket enthusiasts wince at the prospect of watching 20-over matches every day for two months. the period when defeats don’t hurt as much and allegiances become split. the period when movie makers are hesitant to release their works while “news channels” air sports-related programming every day.

This was the final outcome. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Final took place in Barbados between two undefeated teams following an incredible season.

India emerged victorious, winning by a mere seven runs.

In their quest for their first title in more than ten years, India amassed a massive first-innings total of 176/7 thanks to an attritional 76 from Virat Kohli.

South Africa, the opponents, pursued 177 and came very near thanks to some excellent batting from Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klaasen. They were aiming for their first-ever global title.

Keshav Maharaj grabbed two wickets in the second over after Marco Jansen had a costly opening over. Rohit Sharma was caught by Heinrich Klaasen, and Rishabh Pant was caught by Quinton de Kock.

In the fifth over, Klaasen again made the crucial catch to dismiss Suryakumar Yadav for only three runs as the batsman attempted to launch an assault.

Axar Patel and Virat Kohli shared an important 72-run partnership for the fourth wicket, but a mix of superb fielding and bad running brought it to a stop. Kohli gave De Kock a little touch, which he immediately flung toward Axar’s non-striker’s end, where he was far out of bounds.

After joining Kohli at the crease, Shivam Dube and he put up another noteworthy fifty-seven over partnership until South Africa started to make inroads in the last two overs.

Anrich Nortje maintained his excellent campaign with two wickets in the penultimate over – Dube driving hard into the hands of David Miller and then Ravindra Jadeja edging to Maharaj on the final delivery. Kohli’s valiant effort ended at 76 when he skyed Jansen into the hands of Rabada at long-on.

There were more early wickets in the South Africa innings, with Jasprit Bumrah bowling a perfect delivery to knock over Reeza Hendricks in the second over, followed by Aiden Markram edging Arshdeep Singh behind.

De Kock continued his excellent form, though, partnering up with Tristan Stubbs for 58 off 38 balls.

Stubbs’ departure – bowled by Axar Patel for 31 – brought Heinrich Klaasen to the crease for the last ball of the ninth over, with South Africa still needing more than 100 runs.

And de Kock could not helm the chase, holing Arshdeep out to the hands of Kuldeep Yadav for a valuable 39.

David Miller joined Klaasen and their combined big hitting got the required run-rate down to a run a ball, with 30 remaining.

However, in the 17th over, Klaasen caught Hardik Pandya off guard for 52, hoping to cut the distance even further with a boundary that would leave his team on 151/5.

Shortly after, Marco Jansen was out to a brilliant Bumrah ball, and the necessary run-rate escalated once again, requiring 20 runs from the final two overs.

In the first ball of the last over, Miller was dismissed for 21. He attempted a six off Hardik, but only made it to Suryakumar’s hands as he was running, and he was able to maintain his feet on the rope to the right.

Rabada and Maharaj made an effort to maintain the pressure.

However, they were unable to hold off Hardik for too long as Rabada hit Suryakumar with another powerful shot.

In a thrilling final, Anrich Nortje’s single left South Africa eight runs shy of victory.

With this triumph, India joined the exclusive group of teams that have won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup twice, along with West Indies (2012, 2016) and England (2010, 2022).

India staged a historic comeback, battling back after South Africa needed just thirty runs at a run-a-ball.

As soon as Hardik Pandya delivered the game’s last ball, tributes began to flow in, led by some of cricket’s greatest luminaries.

Former captain of India MS Dhoni, whose team won the first T20 World Cup in 2007, praised Rohit Sharma’s team for winning the match in the closing seconds. Among others, Sachin Tendulkar thanked Rahul Dravid, the departing head coach of India, and his old teammate, on this amazing accomplishment. He also praised Vikram Rathour, India’s batting coach, and Paras Mhambrey, their bowling coach, saying that they had accomplished an outstanding job as part of the “Class of ’96.”

On this day, two prominent Indian cricketers, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, also declared their retirements from Twenty20 international cricket. The pair sets several records and finishes first on the T20I run-getters list.

This was Rohit Sharma’s second T20 World Cup championship, following his win in 2007. For Kohli, it was his third ICC trophy after the Champions Trophy (2013) and the Men’s Cricket World Cup (2011). In 2013, Rohit was a member of the Indian team that took home the Champions Trophy.

Notable figures in cricket paid homage to the two players, describing it as the ideal conclusion to their Twenty20 International careers.

Among the best individual efforts in the history of the competition will be Jasprit Bumrah’s T20 World Cup 2024. Bumrah concluded with an incredible economy of just 4.17, by far the best rate of those to bowl at least 20 overs during the event, after taking 15 wickets at an average of 8.26. He will compete for the Player of the Tournament title against fellow Indian player and two-time champion Virat Kohli. We examine his all-conquering campaign, which began with the glamour of New York in the north and ended with silverware in Barbados. Guyana was the laborious journey in the south.

Bumrah went to work in the second over of India’s bowling effort, and he may have saved his best for last when he brilliantly dismissed Reeza Hendricks with his third ball, as his teammates amassed 176/7 in the final against South Africa at Bridgetown.

Hendricks was bowled by Bumrah, who was able to swing the ball away from him quickly and square the opener up before striking the top of his off-stump, despite his bowling motion indicating that the ball should be moved into the right hander.

The Proteas were six down and eventually too far behind in the match when Bumrah tucked one back between Marco Jansen’s bat and pad with South Africa requiring 21 from the last 15 balls.

With a final score of 2/18 (4), India completed a seven-run victory.
